Waiting on Wednesday: 'Tides' by Betsy Cornwell

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine
Welcome to my very first Waiting on Wednesday! I am very excited to be posting about a certain book releasing in 2013! It's called 'Tides' and written by author Betsy Cornwell.

Here's the summary from Goodreads: When high-school senior Noah Gallagher and his adopted teenage sister, Lo, go to live with their grandmother in her island cottage for the summer, they don’t expect much in the way of adventure. Noah has landed a marine biology internship, and Lo wants to draw and paint, perhaps even to vanquish her struggles with bulimia. But then things take a dramatic turn for them both when Noah mistakenly tries to save a mysterious girl from drowning. This dreamlike, suspenseful story—deftly told from multiple points of view—dives deeply into selkie folklore while examining the fluid nature of love and family.

Can I just say, that cover is gorgeous! From the summary and cover, we can tell this book will be focused on selkies rather than mermaids, however, I haven't read a good selkie book in quite a while now! I'm interested to see how far Cornwell takes the selkie lore in this book. The only thing that makes me a bit hesitant is the multiple points of view. I've read a few books where it really works, but most have fallen flat. I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but I'll definitely be picking up 'Tides' as soon as it hits shelves next June! Will you?

  1. Tides seems like a great book! At this point I'll be picking up anything related to mermaids and the sea. It's the first time I've heard of Selkies.

I am totally adding this to my Must-get list of 2013!

    1. Cool! If you're interested in some good selkie books, check out 'Seven Tears into the Sea' or there's a movie called 'The Secret of Roan Inish" that's great too!

      Nice blog btw :)
